Accident in Air Niugini’s flight

At approximately 12:00 midday (Chuuk Time) on Friday 28 September 2018, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with registration number P2-PXE overshot the runway near Chuuk International Airport in Micronesia and landed in water. The aircraft is leased by Loftleidir-Icelandic, a subsidiary of Icelandair Group, but sub-leased to Air Niugini. The accident occurred during Air Niugini’s flight PX073 from Pohnpei to Chuuk. The aircraft had 35 passengers and 12 crew members onboard. Current reports indicate that all onboard safely evacuated the aircraft.

First and foremost, our thoughts are with the affected passengers and crew members and their family members. Loftleidir-Icelandic will provide any support needed and work directly with Air Niugini. While any accident is a sad event, we are not projecting a major or significant financial effect on Loftleidir-Icelandic.
