GameStop Gives, Call of Duty™ Endowment Unite to Place Veterans in Jobs

GRAPEVINE, Texas, Oct. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GameStop is powering up its U.S. stores to accept donations for the Call of Duty Endowment (the Endowment), which provides funding to nonprofits that help veterans obtain high quality jobs and raises awareness of the value veterans bring to the workplace.

The Endowment and GameStop have worked together to help veterans secure quality employment since 2012, with almost 6,000 veterans placed into meaningful careers via the partnership.

During this GameStop Gives campaign from October 5 - 31, GameStop is offering guests four ways to give thanks for our nation’s veterans and their families when shopping at GameStop:

  • Donate at checkout. Guests can give $1 or more or round up their purchase. Plus, PowerUp Rewards members will receive triple PowerUp Rewards points on the donation amount.
  • Donate PowerUp Rewards points. Members can donate points to the Endowment in the PowerUp Rewards Center.
  • Trade in for Charity. Donate up to 100 percent of trade-in value to charity when you bring unused video game hardware, software, accessories or consumer electronics to GameStop.
  • Buy one, GameStop Gives one. With every purchase of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Pro Edition, GameStop Gives will donate $1 to the Endowment.

“Our entire company is passionate about giving back to our military heroes in any way possible. Just last year, our company united together to raise more than $424,000 in donations to help more than 800 veterans get back to work,” says Frank Hamlin, Chief Marketing Officer for GameStop. “We hope our guests join us in showing gratitude for our country’s service members and donate in stores today.”

The GameStop Gives campaign aims to help support employment opportunities for veterans like Maria Hernandez.

The biggest challenge Maria faced after leaving the U.S. Navy was coming to the realization that without furthering her education, she would most likely not find a job that would pay her at the level she had become accustomed to in the military. With the help of Still Serving Veterans, and its funding from the Call of Duty Endowment, Maria was able to land a position in the operations and logistics science industry.

“The impact of getting a job is immeasurable. It feels incredible to finally have an opportunity that fits my experience and education, while at the same time gives me financial security for myself and my family,” Maria said.

“Over the last five years, GameStop and its guests have helped the Call of Duty Endowment fund the placement of more than 6,000 veterans in rewarding jobs. That represents an entire Brigade of vets and has been imperative to the Endowment’s overall placement of more than 47,000 vets into high-quality employment,” said Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director for the Endowment. “Without GameStop, its guests, and this incredible partnership, getting the resources to do this important work wouldn’t be possible.”

This year, GameStop is the premier sponsor of the #CODNATION Challenge: #TheRace to Help Vets, the Endowment’s annual round-the-clock, multi-day streaming fundraiser. This year’s stream will feature hosts Jericho, GoldGlove, Hutch, and VernNotice. The stream will feature special guests, including developers, influencers, and pro gamers, who will join the hosts as they play new modes, explore tips and tricks, and share behind-the-scenes exclusives—all for a great cause. Catch the stream broadcast live from Treyarch Studios on twitch.tv/TheRace from 9am PT on October 11 to 2pm PT on October 13.
