Eurovia, in collaboration with VINCI Autoroutes, achieves the world's first "fully recycled road"

Eurovia, the VINCI subsidiary specialising in transport infrastructure and urban development, in collaboration with VINCI Autoroutes, has recently achieved the world's first "fully recycled road".

The "fully recycled road" was built as part of a major motorway renovation project on the VINCI Autoroutes network, along a 1km section of the A10 motorway between Pons and Saint-Aubin in south west France. Eurovia successfully completed this pilot experiment after over two years of research and development.

It was made possible through the design, in partnership with Marini-Ermont (Fayat group), of an innovative mobile continuous asphalt plant (TRX100%), which makes it possible to recycle up to 100% of asphalt aggregates nearby road maintenance sites. This development represents significant progress compared with the current recycling rates of 50% to 60%.

The bulk of the supply can be sourced from milling materials produced by the site, partly or fully protecting natural resources and reducing transport logistics to a minimum, together with the site's carbon footprint, with a 50% drop in greenhouse gas emissions.

VINCI Autoroutes, the leading motorway network operator in France (4,443 km), has fully integrated recycling into its circular economy strategy implemented in infrastructure maintenance operations. As the project owner, VINCI Autoroutes is keen to promote and deploy this kind of solution across its projects.

This research project won the "Route du futur" call for projects launched by the French Environment & Energy Management Agency ADEME as part of the Investing for the Future Programme to promote the development of innovative and ambitious industrial solutions to reduce the environmental impact of road infrastructure and support the energy transition in the road industry.

The "fully recycled road" is another tangible example of the VINCI Group's commitment to constantly looking for innovative solutions to improve the energy and environmental performance of its business.
