FHLBank Atlanta Hosting Financial Services Career Workshop for Women and Minority College Students

ATLANTA, Oct. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) today is hosting a workshop designed to cultivate interest among women and minority college students in pursuing a career in the financial services industry.

The one-day event titled “College Life to Corporate Life: Women and Minorities in the Financial Services Industry,” will expose students, from freshmen to seniors, to an array of professions in financial services and give them an understanding of what it takes to be successful in the field. Attendees will learn about FHLBank Atlanta and hear from employees from various FHLBank Atlanta departments – including Information Technology, Risk Management, Community Lending, Legal, Accounting, and Government Relations – who will provide an overview of their jobs and discuss possible career paths in financial services for their respective positions.

Arthur L. Fleming, Senior Vice President and Director of Community Investment Services at FHLBank Atlanta, is leading the event and says that one main goal is to let students know about career options they might not have otherwise considered.

“I started out as an urban planner and attorney many years ago working on land use planning matters,” said Fleming. “Financial services was not something I ever thought about as a career pursuit when I was a student, but it has been very challenging and rewarding. I hope the students come away from today with a greater appreciation for the opportunities that are available to them in financial services, regardless of their majors.”

The Henry Arthur Callis Foundation of the Cobb County Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is a co-sponsor of the event, providing gift cards to students that participate in the “What’s My Brand” segment of the agenda.

Attendees will also hear best practices on preparing for job interviews, resume preparation, and how to dress for success. The workshop will also position students for possible networking, internship, and mentoring opportunities.
