BURNABY, British Columbia, Feb. 13, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) is proud to recognize Burnaby’s Divyesh (Dave) Gadhia, FCPA, FCA with a fellowship (FCPA), the highest distinction that is bestowed upon a CPA within the accounting profession. Nominated and selected by a committee of their peers, CPABC’s Fellows are leaders, innovators, and mentors known for their dedication and commitment to their community and to the CPA profession.
Divyesh (Dave) Gadhia, FCPA, FCA, is a thoughtful, constructive leader with exceptional people skills. Gadhia is the executive chairman of The Stars Group, a Toronto-based publicly traded company that owns a variety of online gaming brands. He has led the company’s significant growth, and in 2018 oversaw three international acquisitions, doubling the company’s size to a value of over $10 billion.
Prior to The Stars Group, Gadhia spent more than a decade with Gateway Casinos, progressing from chief financial officer to president to chief executive officer, and finishing as executive vice-chair. Gateway experienced considerable change during this period, and he provided strong leadership, including guiding the recruitment and mentorship of new senior management. Under Gadhia’s direction, the company saw significant growth and an accompanying increase in shareholder value. He then played an instrumental role in Gateway’s successful sale. Gadhia has also served on numerous boards, including those of SPUD.ca, and Sensible Organics Inc.
In recognition of his accomplishments within the gaming industry, Gadhia received the Canadian Gaming Association’s Industry Leadership and Outstanding Contribution Award in 2009.
A passionate community leader, Gadhia shares his financial and business knowledge with the many organizations he supports. For 30 years, he has given back to Simon Fraser University’s students and programs, including as a supporter of the Friends of Simon initiative, which provides literacy tutoring services for young people, particularly new Canadians.
Gadhia also served as a board director with Vancouver Opera and the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. In addition, he co-chaired the BC Children’s Hospital’s outreach campaign to the South Asian community, which raised funds to build an interventional radiology room.
Gadhia began his career at Price Waterhouse as an articling student and progressed to the role of senior associate. He obtained his designation in 1989 in B.C.
