Plan Before You Party This St. Patrick’s Day – Arrange a Sober Ride Home

OAKVILLE, Ontario, March 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As Canadians get ready to don emerald green and raise some pints to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are urging everyone to plan ahead for a sober ride home.

“Before heading out to celebrate all things Irish this St. Patrick’s Day, please be sure to have a sober ride home in place,” said MADD Canada Chief Executive Officer Andrew Murie. “Rely on good planning, not good luck, to get home safely.”

Every year, hundreds of people are killed and thousands injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs. These tragedies are 100% preventable. If you’re headed out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, please:

  • Don’t drive impaired. Plan ahead for a sober ride home – book an Uber, call a cab, take public transit or arrange a designated driver.
  • Don’t accept a ride from a driver who may be impaired.
  • Call 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.

“Let’s all make safety a priority on St. Patrick’s Day, and all year long,” said Ryan Michel, President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. “The few minutes you didn’t take to plan your safe and sober ride home, could mean a lifetime of minutes taken from someone else. Driving impaired is never worth that risk.”

Plan for safe and sober transportation this St. Patrick’s Day. Call a cab, arrange a designated driver, take public transit or check out Uber, MADD Canada’s Official Designated Driver App.
