Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, Launches Joystick Power System for U.S. Wheelchair Market

Yamaha NAVIGO joystick power system makes its debut at the 35th International Seating Symposium (ISS) in Pittsburgh, PA

CYPRESS, Calif., March 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announced today it is launching the new NAVIGO joystick power system for wheelchair riders. The NAVIGO is the 2nd product introduction in U.S. market for YMUS after launching the product line in 2018.

The NAVISERIES product line is focused on supporting the mobility needs of a wide range of wheelchair riders to give them more independence, confidence and options to live life on their terms.

The NAVIGO joystick power system will be on display and available to test ride at the 35th International Seating Symposium [ISS] in Pittsburgh, PA. ISS is a premier gathering of the top clinicians, providers and researchers for the complex rehabilitation industry.

NAVIGO is an effective and transportable joystick power system which can be added to manual wheelchair frames. Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd. (YMC) originally launched its first joystick power system (the JW-1) in 1995. Since then, Yamaha’s joystick power systems have been the flagship product in the Japan power wheelchair market with leading market share for more than 2 decades.

The NAVIGO system reflects Yamaha’s commitment to advanced mobility systems for riders. The NAVIGO is a lightweight alternative to the bulk and lifestyle changes needed with a typical power wheelchair or scooter. The NAVIGO adapts to the riders’ individual manual wheelchair frame which allows for optimal seating & positioning options. The system also has quick release wheels and is easy to transport.

“We are excited to bring this new mobility option to riders in the U.S.  Both of our NAVISERIES products are about giving wheelchair riders more efficient and easy to transport power mobility options,” said Rob Trester, Division Manager of the Smart Power Vehicle Division at YMUS. “Not all wheelchair riders want the size, weight and costs that come with a large power wheelchair.”

“The NAVIGO answers a need in the USA market for a lightweight joystick power system – a plug and play power system to integrate with a manual frame could be considered by many different rider types,”  said Joe Klickna, JW Business Manager. “Additionally the assistant controller option is an easy and controllable way to use Yamaha power to move loved ones or clients with less strain on the caregiver.”

NAVIGO’s pair of motorized wheels can also be used in free wheel mode without any resistance. Driving parameters can be adjusted through the joystick module without need for a separate remote or device.

The NAVIGO is compatible with a wide range of name brand manual wheelchair frames. Whether full time, part time or even temporary use, the NAVIGO will change your perception of powered mobility.

The NAVISERIES is supported by a network of authorized Yamaha dealers who are trained and certified to sell and service the NAVI Mobility systems.

The NAVIGO will be available for test rides and review during ISS. Visit www.yamahanavi.com or contact info@yamahanavi.com to learn more.
