Preparing for ‘unprecedented’ floods in U.S.

Interstate Restoration implores businesses to plan ahead

FORT WORTH, Texas, March 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Warnings of widespread flooding across the nation has prompted Interstate Restoration, one of North America’s leading disaster-recovery companies, to offer suggestions of ways that businesses can prepare.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration announced in a press release recently that “unprecedented” flooding is likely to occur this spring, with “more than 200 million people at risk.”

The Midwest (and especially Nebraska) has been hit hard in recent days; and the NOAA warns of above average rain and snow as the contributing factors, with dangers of a quick melt-off of the deep snowpack. Interstate Restoration’s experience in helping businesses recover from the country’s biggest disasters puts it at the forefront of this latest challenge.

“Our extended reach and our depth of resources allow us to move immediately into action in situations where others are often unable,” said Patrick McCarty, director of restoration services for Interstate.

As Interstate Restoration notes in its recent blog item on the topic of dealing with extreme floods, the two keys to minimizing damage and costs are maximum preparation and speed of response. Some of the other critical ways to prepare are to map out evacuation routes, educate employees on the risks associated with flooding, build an emergency kit, and consult with a qualified and trusted restoration partner. That partner can become acquainted with a client’s facilities, advise the client on protection of its property(s) and documents, and be acclimated to work with the client’s insurance company.

The sooner a business can attend to flood damage, the more likely the business will be able to limit mold growth. The longer a building sits in high, contaminated water, the longer it will take to return to its day-to-day activities.

“Expediting the entire recovery process for clients is what Interstate excels at,” said McCarty. “Our experience in the aftermath of back-to-back-to-back hurricanes (Harvey, Irma and Maria) in 2017 reiterated to us and our clients that we have the expertise, resources and horsepower to respond successfully to catastrophic events.”
