Jobcase, Senator Joe Manchin, the City of Charleston and Partners Host West Virginia’s Largest Job Fair in Years

Top employers converge to find talent, bring new opportunities to the region’s workforce

CHARLESTON, W.Va., March 27, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Jobcase, a social platform for the “future of work,” in partnership with the office of U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, the City of Charleston, Kanawha County Commission, WOWK TV & Nexstar media group, and other partners sponsored the largest West Virginia job fair in years, on Friday, March 22, at the Charleston Convention Center. The event drew nearly 3,000 job seekers and featured 300 top employers including Facebook, N3, the WVU Medical Center, Aramark and Toyota Motor Manufacturing.

“This job fair is a big part of the changing narrative about employment in West Virginia, and it would not have been so successful without Jobcase,” said Senator Manchin. “We have a well-educated, hard-working workforce and a low cost of living, making West Virginia ideal for companies to start, grow, and ‘in-source’ right here in the Mountain State. Jobcase is a valuable resource for us to reach and serve our residents – helping them to find quality jobs, helping employers to build their businesses, and fostering economic growth in our state.”

Hiring events represent an important part of Jobcase’s efforts to empower working people. Jobcase emphasizes the value of community – both “on Main street” and online – with a platform that is designed to help workers learn from each other and drive their own success. Hiring events are one of the many ways in which Jobcase’s people-first technology empowers West Virginians in their work life.  Jobcase serves over 550,000 registered members in West Virginia, is active in helping bridge the employment gap (Jobcase data show open-jobs-per-capita in West Virginia beginning to rival neighboring states of Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania) and has partnered with Generation West Virginia’s NewForce program– a free education pathway to in-state tech jobs.

“It was a privilege to support Senator Manchin’s leadership and help West Virginia residents build economic opportunity in their home state,” said Jobcase CEO Fred Goff.  “The emerging formula for making the ‘future of work’ benefit everyone is to combine boots-on-the-ground with digital platforms; and it includes strong partnerships between government, non-profits, and mission-driven companies like Jobcase. By partnering with Senator Manchin and others,” Goff says “we look forward to helping West Virginia become a successful example of how to navigate ‘the future of work’ in the U.S.”
