Florida Cancer Specialists’ Launches Florida Oncology Connections for Employer-Sponsored Cancer Care

Fort Myers, FL, March 27, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Florida Oncology Connections Program, an employer-sponsored cancer care program in collaboration with RobinsonBush and employers; Orange County Government, Volusia County Government, Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s (LYNX) and others.  This program helps to connect the patient and the caregiver with integrated treatment and communication.  The services include, but are not limited to, cancer information assistance, diagnosis and treatment safeguards, personal care management, streamlined authorization, telemedicine visits, distribution of medical records and a survivorship program.

Employer-sponsored healthcare is the most common way most Americans obtain their health insurance. As a result, the rising cost of healthcare is now placing additional burden on self-funded employers to take the lead with collaborated efforts to manage the spend while offering high-quality health coverage to remain employers of choice.

FCS Chief Revenue Cycle Officer, Sarah Cevallos, shared, “The cost and complexities of cancer can cause fear, anxiety, and time away from work that many cannot afford. The Florida Oncology Connections Program provides personalized services for the employee and caregiver when diagnosed with cancer.”

The Florida Oncology Connections Program is offered to the employees and their dependents (enrolled and covered under the employer’s health plan of these respected employers). Guidance and support are offered through innovative collaborations connecting patients and their caregivers with dedicated resources to guide them throughout their cancer journey.

FCS President & Managing Physician, Lucio Gordan, MD agreed, “The Florida Oncology Connections Program provides employees with access to a team consisting of a physician and/or nurse practitioner, care manager, pharmacist, nutritionist, financial counselor, and clinical staff working to connect and optimize each patient’s care. Their care manager or personal care advocate is their dedicated resource that oversees the complex aspects of their care between treatments and is able to ensure they can focus on what matters most, getting better.”

FCS CEO, Brad Prechtl, MBA, added, “A diagnosis of cancer is life-changing. Patient care and the employee’s well-being are top priority. From an employer perspective, being able to be actively engaged in innovative healthcare solutions to reduce cost while maintaining the highest standard of care is critical to the success of any organization. This program provides these esteemed employers an innovative program when it is needed most.”

Through the Florida Oncology Connections Program, FCS and these respected employers are working together to promote high-quality, cost-effective care for not only the employee, but also their employer. Initially, the program is starting with these core central Florida employers and will be expanded in the future. As a community oncology provider, FCS offers a lower cost alternative while providing the same high-quality oncology research and treatment options close to the patient’s home.
