Allscripts Sunrise™ goes live in Gippsland

First in Australia to incorporate Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform

CHICAGO, April 30, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) has expanded its footprint in Australia with a successful go-live at Latrobe Regional Hospital in rural Victoria. The Gippsland site is Allscripts’ first implementation of Sunrise in Victoria and the first to incorporate Microsoft’s secure cloud platform, Azure. The system offers a comprehensive Sunrise implementation supported by a cloud computing service in line with contemporary cloud-based health information management.

The Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA) is a consortium of publicly funded health services in the Gippsland region of Victoria, east of Melbourne, covering some 16,045 square miles. Latrobe Regional Hospital is Gippsland's specialist referral and trauma center and is one of the region's largest employers, with more than 1,900 staff. It is a purpose-built 300+ bed teaching hospital that cares for a population of more than 260,000 people.

“This is a milestone development in the Australian healthcare sector and we have no doubt that many other sites will eventually follow in Latrobe’s footsteps to leverage the power of the cloud,” said Todd Haebich, General Manager Allscripts Australia. “This new partnership demonstrates Allscripts global offerings and builds upon its commitment to delivering the most advanced solutions in Australia.”

“We are delighted to not only go live with a world-leading EHR but to have the first cloud-based system in Australia and all of the functional benefits it brings,” said Don McRae Acting Chief Executive of Latrobe Regional Hospital. “Our aligned collaboration with Allscripts is an investment in best-practice patient care and positions us as a leading regional health care provider in Australia.”

Used by healthcare organizations across the globe, Allscripts Sunrise is a fully integrated electronic health record that connects all aspects of care, including ambulatory, surgical, radiology, and laboratory services. Built to enable efficient and safe care, Sunrise is a physician-friendly, evidence-based single platform with integrated analytics that helps deliver true personalized medicine. Sunrise supports all core care venues across the enterprise by delivering a single patient record, and features patient-centric capabilities that increase access and convenience for the consumer.

Dr. Nic Woods, Health Industry Executive and Chief Medical Officer for Microsoft Australia, said that hospitals around the world are looking to the cloud to accelerate deployment of clinical and operational capabilities. With Allscripts delivering its Sunrise EHR on Azure, hospitals can focus more on delivering technologies that help drive real-world clinical and operational outcomes rather than having to spend time managing underpinning infrastructure.

“Microsoft Azure in a healthcare setting provides a trusted and secure platform which local teams can also leverage to improve other capabilities such as interoperability and advanced analytical capabilities, both of which ultimately improve patient care,” Dr. Woods said. “It is also an opportunity for these teams to develop the skills and knowledge to enable innovation across the health system.”

“These capabilities have been introduced with the implementation of Sunrise™ across the region. The go-live at Latrobe Regional Hospital is a ground breaking and crucial step in delivery of a digital health ecosystem for the future,” added Dr.  Woods.
