New York, May 02, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GameClub Inc., a start-up developer breathing new life into premium mobile game experiences, has revealed it’s raised $2.5 million in seed funding. GameClub’s investors in this round include CRCM Ventures, GC Tracker, Watertower Ventures, Ride Ventures, BreakawayGrowth Fund and more. The company is gearing up to officially launch in 2019 with a growing collection of high-quality games, free of intrusive ads and microtransactions, fully updated for modern mobile devices.

“There’s a growing sense of freemium fatigue in the mobile games market — consumers are increasingly fed up with predatory free-to-play microtransactions and incessant ads that are not only annoying, but often inappropriate for children,” said GameClub CEO and co-founder Dan Sherman, the former president and co-founder of mobile games publisher Tilting Point. “We’ve reached a dire point where so few developers can make premium work on mobile that the entire category is at risk. GameClub was created to solve this problem, capitalizing on our resources to bring classic and original premium games back to mobile while developing new ways for gamers to discover and enjoy them.”

“The near-total disappearance of premium games in the global mobile games market has left discerning audiences underserved and talented developers missing big opportunities,” said Greycroft board partner and general partner of the GC Tracker fund Jon Goldman. “That’s why GameClub’s concept — hand-picking exceptional premium mobile titles and building an infrastructure to help them grow — is hugely compelling.”

“As a small, two-man studio, the constant changes in mobile software and hardware make it difficult to keep up with maintenance and compatibility on historically popular titles like Super Crate Box while focusing on creating future games and projects. GameClub is a perfect solution for us: they’ve committed to all future compatibility updates, and that way they can make sure our game remains available, playable and preserved for the future,” said Rami Ismail, co-founder of Vlambeer.

GameClub is currently working on updating over 50 exclusive titles, including:

  • Super Crate Box (Vlambeer)
  • Hook Champ (RocketCat Games)
  • Hackycat (Monument Valley lead designer Ken Wong)
  • Gasketball (Greg Wohlwend - Ridiculous Fishing, Threes, Tumbleseed - and Michael Boxleiter)
  • Legendary Wars (Liv Games)
  • BAFTA-nominated Incoboto (Fluttermind)
  • Sword of Fargoal (Jeff McCord and Paul Pridham)
  • Space Miner (Venan Entertainment)
  • Chopper 2 (Majic Jungle)

GameClub titles are designed for and downloaded to your mobile device, allowing you to play your games anywhere with or without an internet connection. GameClub’s internal development team, comprised of expert software engineers trained in a multitude of game engines and technologies, works with game creators to revitalize classic mobile games no longer playable on modern mobile devices. The company has invested heavily in building scalable systems to optimize these titles and keep them playable.

GameClub is experimenting with a variety of monetization models and is currently live in soft launch on iOS smartphones and tablets in select test markets.
