Precision Biomonitoring Awarded 'Build in Canada Innovation Program' Contract

GUELPH, Ontario, May 07, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Government of Canada Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP) has awarded Precision Biomonitoring Inc. a $ $406,468 CAD contract to provide PBI's TripleLock™ solution for Onsite eDNA Detection of Organisms for testing by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) Canadian Forest Service (CFS).

Surveillance and early detection of biological threats is critical to several sectors of the Canadian economy. The earlier the accurate detection and identification of a target organism, the more rapidly the appropriate response to the threat can be deployed, thus mitigating the possible negative consequences posed by the threat. TripleLock™ solution for Onsite eDNA Detection of Organisms enables a simplification of processes for threat identification right in the field for fast and reliable identification results. The data can be accessed immediately and transmitted to a server or web portal to inform response to the threat. The applications are versatile and can be adapted in many fields including detection and monitoring of insect pests, plant pathogens, vectors of animal pathogens, and microbes found on fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition, potential cost savings in the process for early detection and surveillance can be achieved.

"We are very proud to have won this contract from the Government of Canada," stated Dr. Mario Thomas, Co-founder and CEO of Precision Biomonitoring. "Winning this contract is a testament to the value of Precision Biomonitoring’s innovative TripleLock™ Onsite eDNA Surveillance Platform Solution. Our products give users onsite detection of biological threats in quasi real time, thus allowing a much more rapid response to serious risks. We are extremely grateful to CFIA and CFS for testing our product."
