Fire up the grill with low-emission propane year-round!

OTTAWA, May 16, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Many Canadians love to barbecue all year-round but especially when the weather starts to get warm. You know spring has arrived when the smell of backyard barbecues is in the air.

Propane is a clean energy source and is one of the most popular ways to heat the grill. It is portable, efficient, and emits half the carbon dioxide emissions of a charcoal barbecue.

“Low-emission propane is produced and available here in Canada, adding value through jobs, revenue and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” says Nathalie St-Pierre, President and CEO of the Canadian Propane Association. “Canadians nationwide rely on propane to fuel their lives. It is one of the most versatile fuels around; one of its most well-known applications is lighting up the grill – whether camping, on a family get-together in the outback or simply in your own backyard, propane can go anywhere.”

But as with any appliance, it’s important to regularly maintain your barbecue and ensure it is in good working order. The CPA has a list of important barbecue safety tips for propane users for proper operation of your barbecue and safe grilling.

Quick and easy steps include checking for leaks, especially if you’re using your barbecue for the first time this season. Applying a 50/50 solution of soap and water to the propane cylinder connections and hoses can help you identify a leak. Other CPA safety tips include never using a barbeque indoors or in a garage, ensuring the lid is always open when igniting the barbecue and a list of Dos and Don’ts such as positioning your barbecue away from wooden fences or walls and never storing or placing cylinders near the barbecue, or near sources of heat or ignition.

“Outdoor grilling is a must-have. Following the CPA’s easy safety measures will ensure years of successful and safe grilling, and help Canadians cook outdoors incident free, year-round,” says St-Pierre.
