Eimskip: Reykjavik District Court rejects Icelandic Competition Authority‘s demand for a complete dismissal

Reference is made to a press release from 30 June regarding Eimskip‘s claim that the Icelandic Competition Authority‘s (ICA) investigation is illegal and should be ceased.

Eimskip’s claims in this case are twofold: Firstly that ICA’s investigation in its entirety is deemed illegal and should be ceased. Secondly that seized documents from two dawn raids should be returned and all copies destroyed.

ICA demanded that the district court would dismiss Eimskip’s claims. Today Reykjavik District Court ruled on ICA’s demand and dismissed Eimskip’s first claim, but rejected dismissing Eimskip’s second claim. Eimskip will refer the dismissal to the Court of Appeal, but otherwise welcomes the ruling.
