Intercept Pharmaceuticals Appoints Jason Campagna as Chief Medical Officer


NEW YORK, Dec. 02, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intercept Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:ICPT), a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel therapeutics to treat progressive non-viral liver diseases, today announced the appointment of Jason Campagna, M.D., PhD., as Chief Medical Officer. He will join Intercept’s executive leadership team and report directly to Mark Pruzanski, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer. In his new role, Dr. Campagna will provide strategic medical and scientific oversight for Intercept, and work in close collaboration with the company’s Research & Development, Regulatory, Medical Affairs and Safety & Pharmacovigilance departments.

Dr. Campagna has over 15 years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry, including his role as Senior Vice President and NASH Program Leader at Intercept since 2016. Prior to Intercept, Dr. Campagna held a number of roles of increasing responsibility at The Medicines Company from 2010 to 2016, including most recently as Senior Vice President and Health Science Lead of Surgery and Perioperative Care. Earlier in his career Dr. Campagna served as the Chief Medical Quality Officer at Cottage Health System, held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School and was a Fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University. Dr. Campagna also served as Managing Director of Profibrix B.V., following its acquisition by The Medicines Company in 2013, and as a Director of Annovation Biopharma, Inc. prior to its acquisition by The Medicines Company in 2015. Presently, Dr. Campagna serves on the Steering Committee of the Wallace H. Coulter Center for Translational Research at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
