ERIE, Pa., Nov. 3, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Xlibris, the leading print-on-demand self-publishing services provider, today announces the release of History of the Pennsylvania Grape Industry, an engaging new book authored by Carl William Haeseler, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus of Pomology and Viticulture (Department of Horticulture, The Pennsylvania State University).

History of the Pennsylvania Grape Industry is a comprehensive guide that examines the origin and the development of the grape industry in Pennsylvania. It looks back starting with the Colonial Period, particularly with the belief that the first European to discover grapes in America was Tyrkir. It reveals that some time later, American interest in grapes was revived during the Swedish occupation of "New Sweden" (Plate 1) of southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Since that time, the grape industry of Pennsylvania not only expanded but also gained importance among people from other places. Readers will learn that historical figures like Benjamin Franklin enjoyed Pennsylvanian wine while President George Washington and Thomas Jefferson signed a patent that provided for the purchase of the "Triangle," a piece of land that proved to be essential to the state and its grape industry.

Filled with lots of historical details and credible references, History of the Pennsylvania Grape Industry is easily the most engaging guide on the Pennsylvanian grape industry.
