Two Tragedies -- Separated in Time -- Yet Bound Together by the Power of Human Will -- With His Two Novels, Talented Author Brings the Pursuit of the American Dream in a True American Saga and the Recreation of One of the Most Popular Greek Legends to Publishing Event

PUEBLO, Colo., Oct. 26, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Silvio Caputo brought us two captivating novels, The Death of Spring and Achilles: The Fire of Destiny, at the Xlibris booth for the 2009 New York Library Association in Niagara Falls, on October 15 and 16. Caputo has shared one man's disheartened pursuit of the American dream even as he renders his version of Greek mythology at the publishing industry event.

The Death of Spring brings readers to Southern Colorado in the middle of the coalfield wars between the United Mine Workers of America and John D. Rockefeller owned Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. The story follows Vincenzo, an Italian immigrant in pursuit of the fabled American dream, only to dash his hopes in the squalid, nightmarish coal camps, beginning with the death of his older brother.

In Achilles, Caputo remakes the timeless legend of the Greek hero with the curious weakness. While keeping the established details of Achilles' traumatic birth at Phthia and his vindictive war against Troy, Caputo deviates from the classic telling to delve into Achilles' personal life and bare the story of the women who helped shape him and his destiny.

With The Death of Spring and Achilles: The Fire of Destiny, Caputo offers two enriching additions to any library or private study, both powerful explorations into the rich drama of human life set in two different epochs in the history of civilization.
