About Rachel Smith:

The Panama-born Clarksville, Tennessee native previously held the title of Miss Tennessee Teen USA(r) in 2002 and has significant plans for her new position as Miss USA.

The bi-racial beauty's accomplishments include humanitarian efforts that have allowed her the opportunity to travel the world; she has been to Mexico twice and multiple times to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her most recent endeavors led Smith to South Africa in January 2007, where she worked with Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls, teaching and volunteering. Smith also likes to spend her time helping her community. She was an avid volunteer at her local Vine Hill Boys and Girls Club. Rachel's experiences have had a significant impact on her life and as Miss USA; she hopes to make her lifelong goal of creating her own philanthropic organization a reality. "By being Miss USA, you're an ambassador, a humanitarian. It's helping me fulfill, eventually, what my dream is, all the while helping others," Smith says.

Smith graduated from Belmont University Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Journalism. She attended on a full scholarship and was extremely active during her studies. She not only served as the Managing Editor of the campus newspaper, The Belmont Vision and radio station but also interned locally at Nashville's CBS affiliate WTVF and nationally with Harpo Productions, Inc., in 2006, spending eight months in Chicago.
