LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) announced today that its Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer have signed and sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission the certifications of publicly filed reports mandated by both SEC Order 4-460 and the recently passed Sarbanes-Oxley legislation. The certifications accompanied Occidental's Form 10-Q for the second quarter 2002.
As previously reported, subsequent to the appointment of KPMG to replace Arthur Andersen as the Company's independent auditor, KPMG - at Occidental's request - conducted a complete re-audit of Occidental's consolidated financial statements for the previous three years. In July, Occidental filed a 10-K/A with the SEC which included KPMG's unqualified report that contains no changes in the Company's balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements or earnings per share.
