JAAKKO PÖYRY GROUP AWARDED EUR 80 MILLION CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLY CONTRACTS FOR FOUR BIOENERGY POWER PLANTS IN THAILAND

The Jaakko Pöyry Group’s Energy business group, Electrowatt-Ekono, has been awarded construction and supply contracts for four bioenergy power plants by A.T. Biopower Company Ltd. The value of the construction and supply contracts is EUR 20 million per power plant. The contracts will become effective and recorded in the order stock upon the financial closure, scheduled for January 2003.

The contract assignment includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for four identical 20 MW rice husk-fuelled power plants located at separate sites northwest of Bangkok. The projects will be executed over a period of 32 months. To ensure an early start of the project, A.T. Biopower has issued Electrowatt-Ekono with an initial pre-engineering contract to immediately commence the engineering work.

Electrowatt-Ekono’s goal is to expand its range of services in the renewable energy power market, especially in Europe and Southeast Asia. This assignment will be the Energy business group’s second renewable energy contract based on rice husk fuel in Thailand.

The major investors of A.T. Biopower are Rolls Royce Power Ventures, a subsidiary of Rolls Royce Plc., Al Tayyar Energy, a Dubai-based renewable energy equity fund, and Flagship Asia Co. Ltd., a Labuan-based (Malaysia) renewable energy development company.

The Energy business group, operating under the brand name Electrowatt-Ekono, had net sales of EUR 127 million in 2001. Electrowatt-Ekono has offices in 20 countries and employs 1200 experts worldwide.
