Nokia has signed an agreement to supply the Nokia M2M Platform to Telenor Mobil in Norway. This machine-to-machine (M2M) platform consists of two main elements, the Nokia M2M Gateway product and the Nokia GSM connectivity terminals. Telenor Mobil is among the first operators to adopt the Nokia M2M Gateway technology to provide new M2M services for its customers.
“Telenor Mobil is dedicated to offering solutions suitable for machine-to-machine communication. We regard the collaboration with Nokia as a significant step in implementing our strategy to become the leading provider of M2M solutions and service provisioning in our market. We want to support third party companies in the process of preparing tailored M2M solutions for customers. The Nokia M2M Platform makes this easy and straightforward, and hence it was a natural choice for us,” said Ric Brown, Telenor Mobil Vice President.
“The Telenor Mobil agreement is an important milestone for Nokia to pave the way to open M2M service provisioning in Scandinavia. The Nokia M2M Gateway and accompaning support tools together with the Nokia 30 Connectivity terminals, offer a simple and appealing value proposition and business model in M2M business for operators, corporates and system integrators" said Janne Jormalainen, Vice President, Mobile Enhancements Business Unit, Nokia Mobile Phones.
The Nokia M2M Gateway software bridges the GSM network and the Internet by providing a two-way connection between applications located on the Internet or on a company’s server and within remote devices. The Nokia 30 GSM Connectivity Terminal is installed within a remote device, and it can take advantage of all possible bearers for data transmission over GSM 900/1800 networks.
The Nokia M2M Gateway is an open software product, based on widely accepted industry standards. This provides easier and faster application development, operation and maintenance of various M2M applications and services.
