Martinsried/Munich, Germany, and Mahwah/New Jersey, USA – October 31, 2002 – ADVA Optical Networking (German Neuer Markt: ADV), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today announced that incumbent European carrier Telecom Italia has deployed ADVA’s Fiber Service Platform (“FSP”) 3000 product to build up metro network infrastructure in selected Italian cities. The FSP 3000 is marketed with the Siemens Waveline MetroNet label, and its deployment by Telecom Italia represents an important stride forward for the ADVA and Siemens partnership in a difficult telecommunications market environment.
Sold to Telecom Italia by Siemens IC Networks, ADVA’s FSP 3000 product and Siemens’ Telecommunication Network Management System (“TNMS”) software have been deployed in an eight node ring network in Rome. Telecom Italia is also deploying additional rings in selected Italian cities starting in late 2002. The metro ring networks utilize ADVA’s Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (“DWDM”) technology to deploy new Gigabit Ethernet services and address fiber relief concerns.
