Nokia to expand Beijing MCC's GSM network and services in China


 Nokia and Beijing Mobile Communications Company Limited (BMCC) have signed agreements for the supply of BMCC's next expansion of its GSM network.  In addition, Nokia will further enhance the capacity and features of the short message service centers, provide GPRS core network as well as significant technical-support services for the management of BMCC network.  The combined value of the contracts is more than USD 70 million. 
 
Under the agreement, Nokia will provide a full range of equipment, including both GSM core and radio-access infrastructure and deploy Nokia's GPRS solution in BMCC's network to greatly boost its capacity to handle popular text messaging and GPRS services, as well as an ever-growing volume of GSM voice traffic. 
 
In addition, the service contract concluded between the two companies includes implementation, and technical support.
 
BMCC holds dominant market share in Beijing, one of the world's largest single-city GSM markets.  Nokia and BMCC have enjoyed close partnership since BMCC became Nokia's first Chinese GSM network customer in 1994.
