Emulex Adds Open Source Linux Drivers to Novell's SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9

Corporate Customers Benefit from Scalable, High Performance Data Storage Solutions Running on a Secure, Reliable Linux Platform

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 3, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a provider of intelligent building blocks for the storage networking industry, today announced that Emulex Open Source Linux HBA drivers will be integrated into Novell's newly announced SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 operating system. SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 is the first enterprise-class server product that provides the benefits of 2.6 Linux kernel to mission-critical enterprise data center environments, where Fibre Channel technology is the dominant storage connectivity technology.

"Emulex HBAs are used in corporate data centers worldwide," said Holger Dyroff, vice president product management and marketing, SUSE LINUX for Novell. "The integration of Emulex's HBA drivers into Novell's upcoming SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 enables corporate customers to take advantage of scalable data storage solutions running on a secure, reliable, performing Linux platform."

Integration of the latest Emulex HBA driver versions into the 2.6 kernel-based SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 reinforces the longstanding relationship between Emulex and Novell's SUSE LINUX business unit. Prior qualification efforts include support for Emulex Fibre Channel HBA drivers with the widely deployed SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 8.

With a large installed base of more than 1.6 million HBAs, Emulex solutions are used in corporate data centers worldwide and relied upon by the world's leading server and storage OEMs for robust connectivity within Linux and other operating environments. The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across Emulex's entire HBA product line, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities and also ensures a lower total cost of ownership.

"Emulex boasts a broad installed base of connectivity solutions running in Linux environments," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "We will continue working closely with Novell's SUSE LINUX business unit, our OEM partners and the Linux community to ensure broad distribution and deployment of high performance, high reliability storage networking solutions."

In addition to being part of the SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 8 and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 deliverables, Emulex Open Source Linux drivers are also available from the Emulex web site at http://www.emulex.com/ts/docfc/linuxframe.htm and distributed or qualified by the world's leading server, storage and management software solution vendors.
