ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the company that powers storage area networks (SANs), today announced that QLogic will be the supplier of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) for HP's StorageWorks MSA1500 SAN Starter Kits, entry-level SAN solutions based on the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1500 for small and mid-sized business (SMB) customers who want easy-to-implement, easy-to-maintain SANs.
The HP StorageWorks MSA1500 SAN Starter Kit offers everything needed for simple and rapid deployment of entry-level SANs. The kit includes two easy-to-use HP StorageWorks FCA2214 HBAs built by QLogic; a Fibre Channel switch; and the choice of a Serial ATA or SCSI drive enclosure, with cables.
"HP and QLogic are dedicated to making storage networking easy," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "The HP StorageWorks MSA1500 SAN Kits are easy to sell, easy to buy and easy to install."
Users with high availability requirements can enhance their MSA1500 SAN Starter Kit by purchasing the HP StorageWorks MSA1500 High Availability (HA) Kit, which upgrades the system to dual-path redundancy. The flexible upgrade kit includes supports for Windows, Linux and Netware environments, and includes one additional MSA1500 controller (which provides an HA redundant controller configuration); an additional 2Gb 8-port Fibre Channel switch; and two additional QLogic-based HBAs. Industry-standard software (MPIO for Windows, QLogic driver for Linux) or Secure Path (available for all three OSs) is needed to enable path failover.
"QLogic has been a driving force in simplifying SANs and reducing the cost of entry into storage networking," said Kyle Fitze, director of SAN marketing for HP StorageWorks. "By working closely with innovators like QLogic, we are able to provide our customers with a flexible, open, standards-based storage infrastructure that makes sense now and then easily scales as their storage needs grow along with their business."
QLogic SANblade HBAs
QLogic SANblade HBAs offer the ultimate in performance: 2-Gbps Fibre Channel combined with 64-bit, 133-MHz PCI-X. Eliminating traditional host bottlenecks that impede the high performance of 2-Gbps Fibre Channel, this union of the fastest I/O and host technologies creates the perfect balanced solution. SANblade HBAs are based on unique single-chip Fibre Channel controller architecture from QLogic. QLogic HBAs integrate a RISC processor, a Fibre protocol engine, and transceivers into a single, efficient FC controller ASIC that increases reliability and performance at the same time lowers the CPU utilization.
The HP MSA SAN Starter Kit, featuring QLogic HBAs, are now available from HP's channel partners and directly from HP.
