Cisco Unwires Linux Symposium
Cisco Unified Wireless Network Gives Linux Symposium Attendees Free Untethered Access Throughout Conference
| Quelle: Cisco Systems, Inc.
SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - June 27, 2007) - Cisco® (NASDAQ : CSCO ) today announced that
the Cisco Unified Wireless Network and its outdoor wireless network
solutions will constitute the wireless access network of choice for Linux
and open source enthusiasts who attend the Linux Symposium in Ottawa this
week.
"Designed for scalability and robust performance, the Cisco Unified
Wireless Network provides unparalleled performance for challenging
environments and demanding users, especially those who tend to push the
technical envelope," said Pat Calhoun, chief technical officer, Wireless
Networking Business Unit, Cisco. "Cisco embraces the Linux community and
appreciates the opportunity to work directly with them at this event."
"With a major event like the Linux Symposium we have to get hundreds of
laptops networked in a relatively small area," said Andrew Hutton, founder
of the Linux Symposium. "Without managed access points, access controllers
and the Cisco Wireless Control System, it would just not be possible to
reliably provide wireless access in this type of environment."
Cisco Unified Wireless Solutions -- Ideal of Linux Users
The Cisco wireless deployment at the Linux Symposium evidences a burgeoning
trend in pervasive wireless deployments in that it combines Cisco's Unified
Wireless Network and outdoor wireless solutions working in tandem to
provide a comprehensive indoor and outdoor wireless footprint. With its
end-to-end integrated solution approach, the Cisco Unified Wireless Network
helps reduce operational costs by providing simplified network management.
Additionally, the Linux Symposium is utilizing the newly released Cisco
Unified Wireless Network Software Release 4.1. With this release, which
seamlessly works with Linux-based client devices, customers gain new forms
of rich mobility services including enhanced wireless LAN security, guest
access, voice services and location services.
