Scania initiates dialogue about  efficient, sustainable transport services

Today a seminar will be held at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. It begins at 12.30
p.m. and the theme is how efficient logistics can be combined with sustainable
transport services. Scania has a strong commitment to these issues.

“Achieving the goal of efficient, sustainable transport services requires a
broad and constructive dialogue between all stakeholders. For Scania, it is
important to engage in such a dialogue with transport companies, transport
buyers, policy makers and other interested parties,” says Cecilia Edström,
Scania's Senior Vice President Corporate Relations.  

Scania would like to highlight the driving forces behind the increasing demand
for efficient, sustainable transport services. The volume of road shipments is
increasing as global trade grows, posing major challenges for the transport
industry. The environmental impact of such services must decrease, and safety on
our roads must improve. There is also a shortage of truck drivers in Europe. In
Sweden alone, 5,000 new professional drivers have to be recruited annually.

The main speaker at the seminar is Åsa Torstensson, Sweden's Minister for
Communications, who will focus on the government's decision to establish a
Logistics Forum, an advisory body for exchanges of experience, opinions and
advice among various stakeholders in the logistics field. 

Also speaking at the seminar are Jeanette Skjelmose of the home furnishings
group IKEA and Anders Torell of the convenience goods chain ICA. They will
describe how these companies procure transport services. Both companies work on
the basis of combining consumer demands with sustainable transport services. 

Among the other speakers at the seminar are Joel Valmain, Road Safety Unit,
European Commission; Lasse Holm of the non-profit organisation QIII - Quality in
Road Transport Procurements and Lennart Lomaeus of Michelin.   

The seminar will be concluded by a panel discussion including all the speakers
and Hasse Johansson, Group Vice President and head of Research and Development
at Scania.
