Heijmans to transform care complex into residential district -- Noordwijk Project Contract Value €138 Million

The Willem van den Bergh grounds in Noordwijk is located in the dune region of the Province of South Holland. The grounds occupy 54.4 hectares and are owned by the Stichting Zorgverlening 's Heeren Loo Foundation. There will be over 32 thousand m2 of new development. In total, Heijmans will develop and build 350 private homes at the upper end of the middle segment, and in the higher segment, with prices ranging from approximately €250,000 to €1 million. This includes villas, lane apartments, park apartments, park homes and park tower apartments. The dune zone at the edge of the district will be opened up. Recreational facilities, such as a riding stable, petting zoo and sports centres will consequently be easily accessible from the district.
In addition, 's Heeren Loo will independently develop 150 housing units for the rental and private sector. This will result in a mix of private and rental homes and housing for supported living. This arrangement results in so-called reversed integration, in which persons with mental limitations and new residents share the residential district. This is consistent with 's Heeren Loo's vision, which stimulates the creation of contact between their clients and other people.

Safety and Implementation
Safety is a fundamental starting point in the urban development plan. For example, motorized vehicles in Noordwijkerduin will as much as possible be kept separate from local traffic. A flat infrastructure-approach was selected, without raised sidewalks, in order to optimize ease-of-use for wheelchair users.
Heijmans Infrastructure will carry out the demolition, prepare the site for construction, make it suitable for residential accommodation and install the required cables and pipes. In addition, a management plan has been developed for the district. Heijmans Construction will construct the 350 private homes. Construction will start in 2009. The project is expected to be completed in 2014.
