JSC Ventspils nafta subsidiary - crude oil and petroleum products transshipment company Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd, which is working in the port of Ventspils, has again become the largest taxpayer in the Ventspils municipal budget after a break of four years. The taxes totally paid in 2007 to the Ventspils municipal budget by Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd have reached LVL 0.9 million. The functions of Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd in the transit area were fulfilled by JSC Ventspils nafta until 2003. The amount of business activities in this field and consequently the payments into the municipal budget decreased as of 2003 due to interruption of Russian oil transshipment via pipeline in the direction of Ventspils. Whereas since 2007, when Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd obtained a new co-owner and strategic partner (international oil corporation Vitol) the company has again activated its operation, and transshipment volumes of crude oil and petroleum products and all types of tax payments have increased. The major taxpayers were congratulated this year by the Ventspils municipality already for the tenth time - a tradition was started in 1999 to award the companies that have made the largest contribution to ensure well-being and development in the city. From 1999 until 2002, the largest taxpayer to the municipal budget was JSC Ventspils nafta. Now this tradition is again revived by JSC Ventspils nafta subsidiary Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd.
