Düsseldorf, 25 July 2008. The weak capital markets make themselves felt for
ERGO Versicherungsgruppe AG: ERGO’s half year result, at € 269 million, is
33.3% below last year’s comparable figure (€ 403 million). Prospects for
the full year result are lowered as well. Thus the Group takes into account
the ongoing poor situation on the capital markets.

This decision was taken by ERGO’s Board of Management in today’s meeting
following its discussion of the regular update of the forecast for the full
year. According to today’s state of knowledge the full year result will be
in a range between € 320 million and € 380 million. The previously
forecasted range of € 480 million and € 600 million was based on the 
assumption of a normal capital market environment.

ERGO, however, sticks to its longer-term targets. Until 2012, the
sustainable consolidated result – under the assumption of neither
extraordinarily favourable nor poor capital market conditions – is to climb
to € 900 million.

The full set of ERGO’s half year figures will be published on 6 August
2008.
