Jon Barney Joins The Avascent Group

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - January 8, 2009) - Leading strategy and management consulting
firm The Avascent Group today welcomed Jon Barney as a Principal with the
firm. "Jon brings a wealth of industry and consulting experience and
further expands our ability to help clients as they grapple with their most
pressing strategic challenges," said Steve Irwin, Avascent's president.
Prior to joining Avascent, Jon served as an Executive Director in Russell
Reynolds Associates' Aviation, Aerospace and Defense Practice where he
conducted C-level executive searches for aerospace and defense clients,
private equity firms, government and commercial systems integrators,
software companies, and electronic product companies.
Previously, Jon was a Managing Director with Medley Global Advisors, a
strategic advisory firm and worked with the world's leading aerospace and
defense companies, global financial institutions, and multinational
corporations. Jon also served as the Director of Strategic Alliances with
the leading internet-based portal for the military community, Military.com.
Earlier in his career, he was an Associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton's
strategy organization, where he focused on developing technology, financial
and pricing strategies.
Jon began his career with the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Presidential
Military Assistant and an officer on a forward deployed destroyer. He also
was the recipient of a NATO fellowship which included a year serving at
NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Jon received his B.S. with Honors
from the United States Naval Academy and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business
School. He has been published in the Harvard Business Review and was a
speaker at the World Economic Forum in 2004. Jon notes, "I'm extremely
