NaturalNano Announces Two Key Patents Issued

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 6, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NaturalNano, Inc. (OTCBB:NNAN)(Frankfurt:N3N), Acting CEO and President James Wemett announced today two important patents have issued covering the use of Halloysite nanotubes in applications having potential impact on the energy economy. While the primary commercial focus of NaturalNano has been in enhancing polymer performance and in cosmetics, the Company has also continued to file and prosecute patents covering other technologies that take advantage of the unique properties of Halloysite. These patents are available for licensing as we are in discussions now with potential licensing partners.

The first patent, US 7,400,490 "Ultra Capacitors comprised of Mineral Microtubules" takes advantage of the extremely small size and high surface-to-volume of Halloysite, as well as its chemical stability, to provide improved electrolyte performance in high energy storage capacitors such as ultracapacitors and supercapacitors. These devices hold the potential to surpass batteries in applications such as hybrid and pure electric vehicles, cordless tools and appliances, and other distributed power applications due to their long life, extremely fast recharge times, and lower environmental impact at the end of their useful life.

The second patent, US 7,425,232 Hydrogen Storage Apparatus Comprised of Halloysite, discloses devices loaded with Halloysite that can store hydrogen efficiently and safely. This technology has potential for automotive and other commercial power systems that utilize hydrogen as fuel.

Mr. Wemett said that "These patents help NaturalNano leverage the use of our halloysite in more industries and continue to build on our technology and add to our strong patent portfolio."
