Alpha Pro Tech Ltd. (AMEX:APT) develops, manufactures and markets a line of high-value disposable protective apparel and infection control products. The Company also manufactures a line of building supply construction weatherization products. APT's products are grouped into three business segments: The Disposable Protective Apparel; Building Supply; and Infection Control. The Company sells its products under the "Alpha Pro Tech" brand name and under a private label.
In the report, the analyst notes:
"Sales of APT's N-95 respirator product may continue to increase due to fears surrounding the swine flu. On September 3, 2009, The Institute of Medicine, a branch of the United States Academy of Science, released a report recommending that healthcare workers in close contact with individuals infected with swine flu should wear respirator masks. Swine flu was declared a pandemic in June 2009, and it is expected to infect more individuals this fall as schools reopen and temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere fall. A vaccine for the flu, however, will not be available in most countries until October.
"In recent months, the Company's earnings have been boosted by strong sales of its N-95 respirator product and are expected to continue due to swine flu concerns. The Company reported that for the three months ending September 30, 2009, it expected sales of the mask to significantly exceed sales achieved in the three months ended June 30, 2009, when mask sales were up by 222.8% over the year ($2,475,000). APT announced on September 1, 2009, that it would be tripling its average output of N-95 respirator masks to meet growing demand."
