BOSTON, July 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnerNOC, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENOC), a leading provider of clean and intelligent energy management applications and services, today announced that four of its customers, San Jose State University, California State University (CSU) Chico, CSU Sacramento, and DeAnza College were honored at the 2010 California Higher Education Sustainability Conference with Best Practices Awards for energy efficiency efforts and sustainable design practices on their campuses. The universities leveraged EnerNOC's SiteSMART™ data-driven energy efficiency application and commissioning services to help identify and implement the energy efficiency measures associated with each award.
"These four universities' forward-thinking and comprehensive approach to energy management has made a significant impact on their campuses, their budgets, and their communities," said Tom Arnold, Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Carbon Solutions, EnerNOC. "We are proud to be their trusted energy management partner and are delighted to celebrate their success."
CSU Chico's Best Practice Award was in the Monitoring-Based Commissioning category. Based on energy data uncovered by EnerNOC's SiteSMART data-driven energy efficiency application, CSU Chico implemented several energy efficiency measures at Yolo Hall, including optimizing operation sequences and resetting temperature setpoints. The project amounts to operational cost savings of over $35,000 and energy savings of more than 80,000 kWh of electricity and 24,000 therms of natural gas annually.
CSU Sacramento's American River Courtyard won a CSU Best Practices Award for Overall Sustainable Design. The American River Courtyard provides housing and associated services to over 600 students. Occupied in 2009, the project is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification. The design of the American River Courtyard exceeds Title 24 energy provisions by 35 percent and data from the first year of operation substantiates these calculations. EnerNOC helped ensure that the facility was designed and constructed to achieve a high level of sustainability and energy efficiency by acting as the Commissioning Authority on the project.
DeAnza College won a Best Practice Award in the Overall Sustainable Design category for its Mediated Learning Center. As DeAnza's Commissioning Authority, EnerNOC has provided several design reviews and was instrumental in assisting the development of a new district-wide, interoperable HVAC controls system platform. The Center is expected to consume 71 percent less energy than the national average for college/university buildings.
San Jose State University received a Best Practice Award in the Lighting Retrofit category for implementing lighting system upgrades and controls projects at its highly acclaimed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library as part of a SiteSMART commissioning services project. The project included installing occupancy sensors on the library book stack lighting, retrofitting inefficient ceiling fixtures, and converting to spectrally enhanced (5000 K) lighting. These measures reduced energy consumption at the building by 22 percent while significantly enhancing building aesthetics. The project is saving over $300,000 and more than 1,900,000 kWh annually.
The 2010 Best Practice Awards Competition for the Energy Efficiency Partnership program seeks to highlight the achievements that California State University, University of California, and California Community College campuses have made through innovative and effective energy efficiency projects and sustainable operations.
