Check-in the evening before speeds up Easter departures

Congestion and long queues caused by lively holiday travel during Easter holidays can be avoided by bringing your baggage to the airport the evening before departure or by using self-service check-in options, such as online check-in, text message check-in, mobile services or check-in kiosks.

At Helsinki Airport check-in can be completed between 17:30 and 21:30 the previous evening to all Finnair flights departing the next day. The evening check-in is a permanent service available both for scheduled and leisure flights. One member of the family can bring the baggage for the whole family, provided that he or she also brings along all tickets and her or his own travel documents.

Finnair’s online check-in service opens 36 hours before departure of scheduled flights and about 19 hours before departure of leisure flights. The service is available to all Finnair and Finncomm Airlines’ flights departing from Finland and from most destinations abroad - also when the journey includes a connecting flight - as well as to Finnair leisure flights AY1001–AY2999 departing from Finland.

Finnair Plus members can easily check in by replying to a text message sent to them by Finnair, when they are travelling on a Finnair or Finncomm Airlines’ international or domestic scheduled flight, or on a Finnair leisure flight departing from Finland.

Self-service check-in kiosks at Helsinki Airport may also be used by passengers leaving on a Finnair scheduled or leisure flight. To get started, passengers only need their passport, Finnair Plus membership card, or your credit card.

Finnair’s mobile site, m.finnair.com, gives access to an extensive range or travel-related services, instructions and tips. The service can be uploaded in 3,000 different mobile phone models, in 14 languages and in 36 countries. In the mobile service the customer can check in, change the reservation and check for updated information about Finnair’s departing and arriving flights. The service also offers information about more than 50 destinations and 40 airports.

It is always worth giving a mobile phone number when making a Finnair flight booking, so that Finnair can automatically send information about possible traffic disruptions or baggage delays.

Passengers are recommended to come to the airport in plenty of time, particularly during busy holiday periods. Check-in must be made at the latest 45 minutes before a flight departure to a domestic ski centre when passengers bring winter sports equipment along with them.
