Corporate News: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Special Editions with South
Park and Movie expansion packs out now Europe wide on Xbox LIVE(R)
Marketplace and PlayStation(R)Network
Eindhoven, December 6, 2011 - Catalis SE, the worldwide service provider
for the digital media and entertainment industry, is pleased to announce
the launch of the first digital download releases for its exciting quiz
format game series Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Special Editions on
PlayStation(R)3 and the Xbox 360(R)video game and entertainment system from
Microsoft. Players will be able to bring all the excitement and atmosphere
of the original TV programme to their home console, but with the added
unique feature of special licensed question packs, each containing hundreds
of extra questions from a specific field, such as movies, sports, or music.
As well as the main Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Special Editions game,
featuring more than 1,200 questions covering all fields of knowledge, the
first two special edition packs are also available to download now: South
Park - Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Edition and Who Wants To Be A
Movie Millionaire?
Further game packs, themed around well known characters, brands and themes
will follow in the future. This new game range is developed by DDP,
Catalis's digital game publishing and development studio under license from
2waytraffic International, part of Sony Pictures Television, which owns and
licenses the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? format around the world.
In Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Special Editions contestants participate
in the fastest finger round and then scale a mountain of questions in the
quest for that elusive virtual million, making judicious use of the three
classic lifelines - 50:50, Ask The Audience, and Phone-A-Friend. It's a
social experience, too: up to four friends can compete locally to outdo
each other, with each person's score dependent on their speed.
The South Park - Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Edition, developed
in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios, is based on the Emmy(R)
And Peabody(R) Award-Winning Series South Park. It offers hundreds of
specific questions based on the South Park universe, set in a fully themed
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? studio and featuring an original South Park
introduction.
The Millionaire set, audience - including main South Park characters -
lifelines and contestants are all themed around the classic animated
series. The pack also includes five player avatars, designed especially by
South Park, alongside more than 600 questions taken from all 15 seasons of
the show. Even the Phone-A-Friend lifeline features characters from the
South Park world.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? originally launched in the UK in 1998 and
its popularity quickly spread around the world. Thirteen years on, the
format has been sold in 120 countries, producing dozens of millionaires
around the globe.
South Park launched on August 13, 1997. The series is syndicated in more
than 130 territories and translated into 30-plus languages. Co-creators
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are executive producers, along with Anne
Garefino, of the Emmy(R) and Peabody(R) Award-winning South Park. Frank C.
Agnone II is the supervising producer. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce
Howell and Vernon Chatman are producers. South Park's Web site is
www.southparkstudios.com.
The first three Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Special Editions releases
can now be purchased from the PlayStation(R)Store and the Xbox LIVE(R)
Marketplace for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from
Microsoft. In addition to this, there's a free XBLA single player trial
version of the main game available, including a set of the first seven
questions.
