COLUMBIA, Md., Feb. 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, BTS ™ Corporation hosted Congressional Representative John Sarbanes at their expanding Columbia, MD office complex. The Maryland Representative toured the office space and participated in live demonstrations of the company's cutting edge 3G/4G cellular products. Sarbanes also took the opportunity to speak with BTS employees about military technologies, the defense budget, and technology-focused job creation.
"Keeping Marylanders on the job is my top priority and I am proud our state has small independent businesses like BTS, which create innovative technologies while also creating local jobs," said Congressman Sarbanes. "I thank BTS for its critical contributions to our national defense and for its efforts to grow and foster a vibrant innovation corridor in the Baltimore area."
Representative Sarbanes serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. His staunch commitment to technology innovation in Maryland is evidenced by his drive to create an environment of entrepreneurship in the state, resulting in more jobs and a lower unemployment rate.
BTS was founded in 2008 and now employs almost 100 full-time employees, a significant portion of which are military veterans. The company provides a full range of products and services to enable the military and commercial consumer to set up and maintain fully functioning cellular networks in difficult operating environments. BTS products are currently fielded in Afghanistan.
"BTS is dedicated to the needs of our nation's Warfighters through the development of our commercial-grade products for military application, but we are also working to make Maryland a better place to live, work, and start new businesses," said BTS CEO Sean Lane. "We want to sustain our abilities to hire great Maryland technologists, so we have established a nonprofit to ensure that Maryland students have opportunities to excel in technology from the middle school level through the university system."
In early 2011, BTS established the Digital Harbor Foundation, a nonprofit that works to foster a culture of innovation, technological advancement and entrepreneurship in Baltimore through educational initiatives for students and recent college graduates. The nonprofit has already awarded scholarships to college students in Maryland and is launching a Baltimore public school teacher technology mentorship program this spring.
