London Heathrow Marriott Cleans Up

London Heathrow Hotel Associates Join Clean-Up Efforts at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

HAYES, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec 14, 2012) - Associates of London Heathrow Marriott Hotel gathered along with The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, to spend a day clearing overgrown vegetation to encourage greater use of the park by local residents and visitors to the East London district.

Hotel associates from one of the premier London Airport hotel in Heathrow worked to clear away overgrown shrubbery and accumulated waste as well as cut back encroaching vegetation. Located in the heart of East London, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park offers great biodiversity and "friends" are striving to maintain the wide variety of plant and animal species found in the park's natural environment. While encouraging greater use of the inner urban green space, the group also focuses on protecting and preserving the park's historic content.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012, hotel volunteers and other park friends spent most of the day working diligently at clean-up efforts at the park. "Everyone stuck in and really made a difference to the appearance of the park by the time the day was over," said Jim Shields, head of hotel engineering and member of the Green Team. "We all worked very hard but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves too. It's important to maintain areas such as this park for the local community and the environment too, and I feel proud to have been a part of it."

Other personnel representing the London Marriott Heathrow hotel included Ron Vos, General Manager; Freddie Gubatanga, Engineering; Marissa Hu, Housekeeping, and Oksana Zadvornaya, Finance. In addition to members of The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, London Marriott Heathrow Hotel associates were joined by additional eager volunteers from other London Marriott hotels in the area.

Striving to be environmentally friendly, the Marriott Heathrow hotel maintains a 100 percent recycling program that utilizes organic waste to fuel incinerators and eliminate landfill waste.

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is owned by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) and the "Friends" manage the area through a Service Level Agreement with LBTH. Management includes daily maintenance and litter duties at the park, much of which is carried out by volunteers through the organization's practical conservation events.
