New Icare ic200 tonometer to replace Icare PRO in professional use
Later this year, Revenio will launch the new ic200 tonometer for professional use, replacing the earlier model Icare PRO. Intended in particular for use by eye surgeons, the device is currently in the process of applying for CE marking and approval by the FDA in order to begin sales.
The Revenio Icare product line is protected with more than 30 patents worldwide. The unique and patented feature of the newly introduced Icare 200 is its ability to measure eye pressure from any angle, including in a horizontal position.
"Icare ic200 can be used by, for example, eye surgeons during operations. The device is also suitable for inpatient care, as well as any situations that pose a challenge to measurements due to the patient's position. Our device is the only one of its kind on the market with the capability to perform such measurements. Moreover, the device is able to transmit data at high speeds in real time over a Bluetooth connection," explains Timo Hildén, CEO of Revenio Group.
The Icare ic200 will replace the earlier model Icare PRO, which was introduced back in 2010. To date, the Icare PRO has sold thousands of units primarily in Japan, the UK, Germany and Canada. During its service life, the product was not applied for a sales permit in the United States, the globally largest market for medical instruments. Although the device was technologically unmatched, its usability was not up to the high level of other Icare tonometers. Its successor, the Icare ic200, has been developed with a particularly close eye on user-friendliness.
"We are now ready to submit our application for a CE marking for Icare ic200. This will be followed by the clinical trials necessary to obtain approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later this spring," says Hildén.
