As nuclear energy returns to the center of global energy strategies, one question is becoming increasingly important: how will the industry secure enough uranium to support the next phase of nuclear growth? Today, 38 countries, including Kazakhstan, have backed the goal of tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050, together accounting for more than 70% of global GDP.

This shift is putting renewed attention on the world’s major uranium-producing regions. Kazakhstan accounts for around 40% of global primary uranium production, while Kazatomprom remains the world’s largest uranium producer. In 2025, the Company’s attributable production represented approximately 20% of global primary uranium output, with its products supplied to nuclear power operators across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

In the first half of 2026, Kazatomprom delivered stable operational and financial results. Uranium production on a 100% basis increased by 9% to 13,291 tonnes compared to the same period in 2025, while Group sales remained broadly in line with the first half of 2025 at 7,586 tonnes. The Group’s average realized uranium price rose by 16% to USD 67.88 per pound.
Consolidated revenue increased by 9% to KZT 717.8 billion, mainly driven by higher uranium prices. Operating profit remained broadly stable at KZT 252.6 billion, while net profit amounted to KZT 240.4 billion, down 9% year-on-year, primarily due to stronger local currency and increased finance costs.

These results come amid strengthening uranium market fundamentals. Long-term uranium price indicators have reached their highest levels in 18 years, while utilities are placing greater emphasis on long-term security of supply. At the same time, higher input costs are putting pressure on uranium production costs across the industry.

Meirzhan Yussupov, CEO of Kazatomprom, highlighted the importance of balancing growing uranium demand with a disciplined approach to production. The Company’s “value over volume” strategy reflects this long-term perspective. Kazatomprom remains focused on creating sustainable value while strengthening its resource base. Exploration is currently underway across six areas in Kazakhstan, supporting efforts to replenish uranium reserves and sustain production over the long term. The Company also continues to assess opportunities to expand its presence across higher-value stages of the nuclear fuel cycle.

For 2026, Kazatomprom maintains its production guidance of 27,500–29,000 tonnes on a 100% basis and Group sales guidance of 19,500–20,500 tonnes. Looking ahead, the Company’s priority remains clear: to maintain reliable supply while responding to the evolving needs of the global nuclear industry.
