Scandic Hotels use the Nokia solution for their new WAP service

During spring the frequent customers of Scandic Hotels will also receive a special offer for the Nokia 7110 mobile phone, which is the first WAP 1.1 compliant phone currently available in the market. The Nokia 7110 offers a big display and an easy-to-use Nokia NaviRoller user interface, which allows for the fast and convenient access to WAP services.

"Scandic Hotels set an important benchmark with their innovative and pioneering WAP service. The hotel booking service demonstrates in an excellent way how WAP can give instant benefit to customers by integrating the WAP service with the existing customer care service infrastructure. The value of these types of services is greater than the sum of its components, and Nokia is happy that Scandic Hotels has turned to us and our partner Nocom Ab to provide this complete end-to-end WAP solution," says Pertti Lounamaa, Vice President, Nokia Internet Communications.

"We are proud to be the first hotel chain to offer our customers a concrete opportunity to access our services and special offers through WAP technology. This is the first step in our development of mobile services to our customers," says Roland Nilsson, President & CEO, Scandic Hotels.

The Nokia WAP Server 1.0 is the world's most recognized WAP server, allowing businesses to fully leverage the power and functionality of existing and new service offerings in a mobile environment. It is an open server platform for mobile applications that lets companies maintain control over end-to-end security of access to data and customer traffic between the wireless network and the Internet or their own internal networks. The Nokia WAP Server complies with the WAP 1.1 specification and sets the industry milestone with its security option, the first commercially available implementation of the Wireless Transportation Layer Security (WTLS).
