Wolters Kluwer acquires Baltzer Science Publishers in Amsterdam

Amongst the main journals are Catalysis Letters, Annals of Operations Research and Hyperfine Interactions. Total sales amount to some EUR 3 million.

This acquisition is in line with Kluwer Academic Publishers' strategy to strengthen its journal portfolio and to offer high-level scientific research information to the market in print and electronic format.

Jeff Smith, President of Kluwer Academic Publishers, remarked, "Baltzer's scientific content will strengthen and expand the electronic publishing service Kluwer Online, especially in the fields of chemistry, operations research, mathematics, physics, and computer science and telecommunications."

Baltzer Science Publishers decided to sell to Kluwer Academic because "it had become evident that our program was a good fit with Kluwer Academic and their large-scale electronic publishing platform offered expanded opportunities for online distribution and enhanced usage", remarked Laurenz Baltzer, one of the owners.

KAP publishes more than 700 journals and approximately 1,300 new book titles per year. The program incorporates the lists of Kluwer Academic Publishers, the former Plenum Publishing Corporation, the former Chapman & Hall list, Maik Nauka and the Consultant Bureau's list.

Wolters Kluwer is a multinational information services company with annual sales of more than EUR 3 billion, employing 18,000 people in 26 countries worldwide. Core activities are Legal, Tax & Business, International Health & Science and Educational publishing.
