Northrop Grumman's Bethpage, N.Y. Site Earns Industrial Security Award

BETHPAGE, N.Y., June 28, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Department of Defense (DoD) has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Airborne Early Warning and Electronic Warfare (AEW & EW) Systems business area site in Bethpage as one of this year's recipients of the James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award. AEW & EW Systems is part of the company's Integrated Systems and Aerostructures (ISA) sector.

This is the second consecutive year that an ISA facility has earned the Cogswell award. The sector's Airborne Ground Surveillance and Battle Management Systems site in Melbourne, Fla., won it last year and in 1995. The Cogswell award is the highest honor an industrial security team can receive.

The Cogswell award was established in 1966 as the "Industry Security Award for Excellence" and was later renamed after Col. James S. Cogswell, the first chief of the Office of Industrial Security. It is reserved for top-level participants in the National Industrial Security Program, with less than 0.5 percent of American industrial security programs having received this prestigious recognition. There are more than 13,000 DoD-cleared facilities under the cognizance of the Defense Security Service (DSS).

The award to Bethpage follows an extensive review last summer, after which DSS auditors rated the site's industrial security program as "outstanding."

"This is the highlight of many years of superb performance by our Bethpage security team," said Lou Carrier, sector vice president-AEW & EW Systems, which is headquartered here. "The Cogswell award is official recognition of something we've known for a long time: the Bethpage workforce in general and our security team in particular are among the very best in the business. They not only build products that protect our nation, they also protect our nation's products and information."

Mr. Carrier, along with Richard McGuire, the company's manager-Security for the Northeast Region, and James Byrne, director-Human Resources and Administration for AEW & EW Systems, will represent Bethpage at an awards presentation ceremony July 17 in Arlington, Va. Northrop Grumman's ISA sector, headquartered in Dallas, Tex., is a premier aerospace systems integration enterprise. ISA has the capabilities to design, develop, integrate, produce and support complete systems, as well as airframe subsystems, for airborne surveillance and battle management aircraft, early warning aircraft, airborne electronic warfare aircraft, air combat aircraft, and commercial aerostructures.
