BALTIMORE, Md., August 9, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Suzanne Jenniches, vice president of Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Communications Systems business unit, has received the highest award given by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The Achievement Award is presented annually to a woman who has made an outstanding contribution over a significant period of time in a field of engineering.
SWE also honored Dawne E. LeKang, a senior software engineer for Logicon Inc.'s Inter-National Research Institute (INRI) subsidiary, with its Distinguished New Engineer award. Logicon is the information technology sector of Northrop Grumman. The awards were presented at SWE's National Conference, in Washington, D.C., last month.
Ms. Jenniches was recognized for her outstanding leadership in manufacturing innovation and for setting the highest standards of excellence in producibility engineering. She has been a leader in manufacturing innovation and producibility engineering for more than 25 years. Ms. Jenniches has pioneered new high-speed memory testing techniques and established guidelines for producibility design of printed circuit assemblies to facilitate automated and robotic assembly. She was also instrumental in inventing and fabricating the first robotic assembly station for precision electronics that set the standard for low-cost, high-quality manufacturing.
Ms. Jenniches has served on the board of governors for the American Association of Engineering Societies and is currently treasurer and executive board member of the Greater Baltimore Committee Technology Council, of which she is a founding member. She has testified as an expert witness before Congress on numerous occasions in support of engineering and technology issues for NASA, SWE and other professional engineering organizations.
Ms. LeKang was recognized for her dedication to the mission and objectives of the society by developing programs in her local section, company and community that provide critical support networks for women engineers.
She joined INRI in 1995 and has worked on a variety of programs, including developing software for the U.S. Coast Guard to manage ship traffic in major harbors. Ms. LeKang served as the technical lead for all of INRI's Coast Guard programs and for INRI's theater ballistic missile defense program. Currently, she is the production manager of the transportation systems domain of Logicon INRI.
An active member of SWE, Ms. LeKang developed a member-mentor program for the Baltimore-Washington SWE Section and chaired the family programs for the 2000 SWE National Conference. An entrepreneur, she also used her software skills to develop a day care referral service to help parents find quality child care.
