HERNDON, Va., August 17, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Logicon Inc., a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) company, will lead a team selected by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide information technology (IT) services to the Department of the Treasury.
The Treasury Information Processing Support Services-2 (TIPSS-2) contract is a five-year program with a potential value to the Logicon team of $250 million. The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract includes one base year and four one-year options. It is the follow-on program to the original TIPSS contract awarded in 1995.
Logicon and its team will provide IT services in all four of the TIPSS-2 service areas: information systems services, telecommunications support services, organizational and management services and operational support services. These four areas will cover the gamut of IT tasks from systems, software and database design, development and customization to system administration, help desk support and local area network design.
"This is a broadly based IT services and support contract, managed by the IRS, but available to all treasury department organizations," said Jim DeWire, TIPSS-2 program manager, Logicon. "The quality and effectiveness of our work on the TIPSS-1 contract was essential to our selection for TIPSS-2."
The original TIPSS contracts were an outgrowth of the reinventing government effort and emphasized working smarter and providing improved customer service. TIPSS also set a direct relationship between a contractor's performance and future business opportunities.
TIPSS-2 continues the broad range of services delivered through the original TIPSS contract and provides the treasury department with added flexibility to take advantage of emerging technologies.
Logicon's Information Systems and Services unit, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., will lead the team. Other team members include: Enterprise Information Services, McLean, Va.; ITT Research Institute, Lanham, Md.; Integrated Management Services, Inc., Arlington, Va.; BAE Systems Technology, Inc., Rockville, Md.; Network Resources Inc., Charlotte, N.C.; and Zero and One Engineering, Gaithersburg, Md.
Work on the program will be performed in Falls Church and Herndon, and at various IRS and U.S. Treasury facilities including New Carrollton, Oxon Hill and Riverdale, Md.
