Logicon Wins Safeguard Task Order to Perform Vulnerability Assessments for U.S. Army Reserve Command

HERNDON, Va., Dec. 11, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Logicon Inc., a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) company, has been selected by the Department of Defense to lead a team that will conduct vulnerability assessments of U.S. Army Reserve facilities worldwide. The work will be performed as a task order under the General Services Administration's Safeguard program and has a potential value of $10 million over three years, if all options are exercised.

Vulnerability assessments thoroughly review U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC) sites to identify the assets that need to be protected and to analyze their risk to espionage, sabotage, terrorism, damage, misuse and theft. This analysis helps determine the type and level of protection needed to secure resources adequately and economically.

"While risks cannot be eliminated, vulnerability assessments provide a deliberate, analytical approach to establishing security requirements and prioritizing program investments," said Anthony Cascio, Logicon program manager. "The Logicon team will help the USARC ensure that its specific force protection programs and related expenditures are justified and aligned to validated threat scenarios."

The Logicon team includes Battelle Memorial Institute and other subject matter experts, and has extensive experience in a wide range of security-related fields. This breadth of knowledge is essential in conducting the USARC vulnerability assessments which cover physical security; chemical, biological and nuclear threat assessments; information assurance; information security; network and systems security; personal security; and other elements of force protection.

The USARC commands, controls and supports all Army Reserve troop units in the continental United States with the exception of Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs units. The USARC ensures the readiness of its forces and prepares the nearly 1,700 units under its command to mobilize and deploy to a wartime theater of operation.
