BALTIMORE, Md., Dec. 11, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) has been awarded a $12.1 million fixed-price contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide two missile tracking modification kits for the service's TPS-75 ground-based tactical radars.
The TPS-75 tactical surveillance radar has been the mainstay and primary sensor for the Air Force's control and reporting center system. More than 50 TPS-75 radars are in the Air Force's inventory. The radar's surveillance and simultaneous missile tracking functions are key to providing vital tracking and monitoring information.
"This program assures the Air Force total operational readiness within the theater by providing an enhanced, low-risk, mature capability to detect and track theater ballistic missiles," said Don Wilhelm, Northrop Grumman vice president-Airspace Management Systems.
Northrop Grumman has supplied a broad range of fixed-site and tactical military radars as well as customer-tailored air defense systems to more than 35 countries, and has produced more than 850 ground-based military and air traffic control radar systems worldwide.
ES3 is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of defense electronics and systems, precision weapons, airspace management systems, space systems, marine systems, logistic systems, and automation and information systems.
