Northrop Grumman Delivers Airport Surveillance Radar to Palm Springs


BALTIMORE, Jan. 15, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) has delivered an airport surveillance radar for the Palm Springs, Calif., International Airport that is expected to be operational by late January.

Under a contract from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the ASR-9 radar was delivered to Palm Springs Dec. 19. Contract terms were not disclosed. Funding for this installation was appropriated during the last congressional session.

"Our high-performance ASR-9 installation will enable air traffic controllers to more accurately and reliably manage aircraft operating in the terminal approach and departure areas."

A world leader in air traffic control (ATC) systems, Northrop Grumman has designed, developed and produced a total of 135 ASR-9 radars for the FAA and the Department of Defense. An additional 18 systems have been supplied to various international customers.
