TDC Wins UMTS License in Denmark


COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Sept. 20, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today, the Danish National Telecom Agency awarded one of the 4 Danish UMTS licenses to TDC (NYSE:TLD). The price for the license is DKK 950 million, corresponding to DKK 178 per capita. The Danish price is close to the price paid for the UMTS license in Austria and far below the price paid in England and Germany. The payment of the license will be DKK 237.5 million now, and the rest will be paid in equal installments once a year over the next 10 years, corresponding to a net present value of DKK 657 million and DKK 123 per capita.

The license is valid for 20 years. The network build-out terms of the UMTS license requires coverage of 30% of the population by 2004 and 80% of the population by 2008. 80% of the population equals 50% of the geographical area of Denmark.
